The machine learning solutions presented in the [new issue](https://www.itu.int/pub/S-JNL-VOL5.ISSUE4) were outstanding entries to ITU’s global challenges on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning for 5G and future networks. The online _ITU Journal_ – free of charge to both readers and contributors – offers comprehensive coverage of communications and networking. It welcomes research submissions all year long, on all topics relevant to the work of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Along with research articles, the journal includes [recorded webinar discussions](https://www.itu.int/en/journal/j-fet/webinars/Pages/default.aspx) with researchers and industry leaders. Stay tuned for a new series of talks in 2025. The upcoming issue is set to address [Geospatial AI to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals](https://www.itu.int/en/journal/j-fet/2024/004/Pages/default.aspx). The _ITU Journal_ is currently inviting submissions for further issues on: - [Privacy and security challenges of generative AI](https://www.itu.int/en/journal/j-fet/2025/003/Pages/default.aspx). _Submit a paper by 13 January._ - [Energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable edge computing and communications for AI](https://www.itu.int/en/journal/j-fet/2024/005/Pages/default.aspx). _Submit a paper by 24 February 2025._ - [AI and machine learning solutions for 5G and future networks](https://www.itu.int/en/journal/j-fet/2025/004/Pages/default.aspx) – 5th edition. _Submit a paper by 20 April 2025._ **Kaleidoscope conferences** ITU’s academic conference series, Kaleidoscope, highlights emerging research trends and their implications for international standardization. Researchers from India’s Oxford College in Bengaluru claimed first prize at [_ITU Kaleidoscope 2024: Innovation and digital transformation for a sustainable world_](https://www.itu.int/en/ITU-T/academia/kaleidoscope/2024/Pages/default.aspx), for research proposing an AI-driven smart drinking device for stroke survivors. [Read more](https://www.itu.int/hub/publication/t-proc-kalei-2024/) about the winners and runners up. [Proceedings of ITU Kaleidoscope 2024](https://www.itu.int/pub/T-PROC-KALEI-2024) are available online for free download. _Kaleidoscope 2024_ ran from 21 to 23 October in New Delhi, India, alongside the [World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly](https://www.itu.int/wtsa/2024/), the governing conference for ITU standardization work (15-24 October 2024). ##### **Join the ITU community** Engaging in ITU’s work as [ITU Academia members](https://www.itu.int/en/join/academia/Pages/default.aspx) helps researchers to bring their innovations to market. Academia members collaborate with companies and governments in [ITU expert groups](https://www.itu.int/en/mediacentre/backgrounders/Pages/itu-study-groups.aspx) responsible for radiocommunication, standardization, and development. This strengthens ITU’s work and the impact of research, for example with ITU’s international standards integrating solutions developed by academics or academia-industry collaboration.
